Tartan Day, 2014Two Celebrations |
|
Seven SASA members traveled to New York City on Saturday, April 5th to be part of the Tartan Day celebration. Two daughters joined in the march. Jack LaDuke took the photos while the group passed Radio City.
There were many pipe bands, groups from Scotland, troops of young girls dancing, and even a collection of Scottie dogs. Naturally the noise on 44th and 45th streets was tremendous as all the bands tuned and warmed up. As the group turned onto 6th Avenue a wave of cheering went up from the crowds of people lining the street. Many called "We love the Adirondacks". It was an awesome feeling. As the group approached the reviewing stand the announcer gave a very nice introduction and thanked SASA for coming from "upstate" all the way to the city to join the parade.

On Sunday, April 6, the official Tartan Day, a smaller group of members and friends in the Lake George area met for a morning hike at the Lake George Rec Center. They enjoyed a beautiful sunny spring day, a different view of Lake George, and the traditional toast to Scotland. Lunch followed at a local pub. |
